CME REQUIREMENTS

The Florida Board of Medicine and the Florida Board of Osteopathic Medicine are responsible for setting the CME required for licensure and relicensure in Florida. Each Board specifies a certain number of hours, including some mandatory topics, that must be completed within each two year licensure term.

The Medical Cannabis/Amendment 2 and the expanded qualifying medical conditions effective date: January 3, 2017. In order to qualify to order low-THC cannabis or medical cannabis for patients, a physician must have an active, unrestricted license as a physician under Chapter 458, F.S., or osteopathic physician under Chapter 459, F.S. and must complete the required 8-hour course and examination. Successful completion of the course is required each time a physician renews his or her license. Additional information can be found: Florida Department of Health/Office of Compassionate Use.

Federal OSHA regulation Title 29, Part 1910.1200 has been amended to conform to the "GHS" - Globally Harmonized System of Classification & Labeling - regarding hazardous materials (i.e. specimen preservatives, lab chemicals, etc.). Employee training and written Hazard Communication Plan modification was MANDATORY by June 1, 2016.

Federal OSHA regulation Title 29, Part 1910.1030 requires that all employees with potential for exposure to blood and blood borne pathogens MUST receive training before beginning work - and MUST be retrained annually.
